Change of Command Festivities

The Change of Command festivities were kicked off by a Hail and Farewell hosted by Brad and Clarissa. The Philly wardroom gathered to say hello to some shipmates and goodbye to others. It was definitely difficult to say farewell to all of our good friends.

The gang is gathered, listening intently to Brad.

The wardroom presents John with his farewell gift.

Then the extended Spencer clan came to visit.

We all head to Mystic Pizza.

Fianlly, the day has come for John to turnover his command.

Chris escorts Brenda to her seat for the ceremony.

The official party is perched atop the submarine.

Commodore Clarke says a few words.

Capt Steed presents John with his award.

John begs to keep command!

Ding, Ding, Commander departing.

Now it is time to party...at the first reception of the day.

Mom, Sophia, and Nana enjoy the Nautilus museum.

Corrine, Mom and Sophia...still enjoying.

Ed, Harvey and Dad take a break from chatting.

The boys enjoy jumping on a naval gun outside the museum.

The Sasso clan always ready for the camera.

John and Brenda pose in front of USS Nautilus.

The party is not over. After a short break, we all head to Latitude 41 for some more fun!

The ladies of the Philly pose together for one last photo.

The other COs on the waterfront flank John. Left to Right - Charlie Maher (Memphis), Doug Reckamp (Toledo), Ollie Lewis (San Juan), John, Gene Doyle (Alexandria), Ray Gabriel (Providence) and John McGrath (Mississippi)

The Pennsylvania contigent join John (Diane, Aunt Bonna and Uncle Gene).

Seth and Danete came all the way from Virginia to join the celebration.

The handsome men of the USS Philadelphia.

It is now Saturday, but that does not mean that the festivities are over.

The family enjoys a continental breakfast.

Mom shows off her birthday gift.

Sophia enjoys the sunny day out back.

Nana and Mom soak up the sun!

John received a seafood feast from the Sassos and so we all enjoy. Mom dives right into the 5lb lobster!
